The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is a flagship initiative of the Government of India to create a national digital health ecosystem that will enable seamless sharing of health records across healthcare providers and empower individuals to manage their own health.
The
mission has four key building blocks:
·
Unique
Health ID (UHID): A unique identifier for every individual in the country.
·
Health
Registries: Registries of healthcare professionals, healthcare facilities, and
digital health solutions.
· ABHA
(Ayushman Bharat Health Account): A personal health record (PHR) that
individuals can use to store and manage their own health data.
· Health
Data Exchange (HDE): A secure and interoperable platform for sharing health
data between different stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem.
The
ABDM is still in its early stages of implementation, but it has the potential
to revolutionize the way healthcare is delivered in India. Here are some of the
potential benefits of the mission:
·
Improved
access to healthcare regardless of their location or socioeconomic status.
·
Better
coordination and share of health records seamlessly, will improve care and
reduce the risk of medical errors.
·
Empowered
individuals to make informed decisions about their health.
· Reduced costs: The ABDM is expected to reduce the cost of healthcare by improving efficiency and reducing duplication of services.
· A healthcare provider can use the ABDM to share health data with a patient's insurance company, which can help to streamline the claims process.
The ABDM is still under development, but it is already being used by millions of Indians. The government is working with a wide range of stakeholders, including healthcare providers, insurance companies, and technology companies, to implement the mission and make it a success.
