Do you know eCourts: Aims and Facilities?

eCourts is a pan-India project initiated by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, for providing information and communication technology (ICT) facilities to the Indian Judiciary. It is a multi-crore project covering the High Courts, District Courts, and Subordinate Courts.

The eCourts project aims to achieve the following objectives:

·         To provide efficient and time-bound citizen centric service delivery.

·         To develop, install, and implement decision support systems in courts.

·         To automate the processes to provide transparency of information access to its stakeholders.

·         To enhance judicial productivity both qualitatively and quantitatively.

·         To make the justice delivery system affordable, accessible, cost effective, and transparent.

·         To improve court management and case management systems.

eCourts facilities:

·       e-Filing: e-Filing allows citizens to file legal documents electronically, without having to visit a court in person. This saves time and money, and makes the justice system more accessible to people in remote areas.

·       e-Pay: It allows citizens to pay court fees and other charges electronically, using a variety of payment methods and helps to reduce corruption.

·       Virtual Courts: Virtual Courts allow cases to be heard and adjudicated online, without the need for the parties to appear in person. This is especially helpful for cases where the parties live in different parts of the country.

·       Case Management Systems (CMS): It help courts to manage cases more efficiently and effectively. CMS track the progress of cases, generate reports, and send reminders to parties and judges.

·        Judgment Search Portal: The Judgment Search Portal allows citizens to search for and download court judgments online. This helps to improve the transparency and accessibility of the justice system.

In addition to these facilities, eCourts also provides a variety of other services, such as online cause lists, online transcripts, and video conferencing.
